Sand
castles
portray
moments,
until the waves
wash them away.

My sacroiliac complains
about the weather when it rains,
which means that I am certified
in many methods to abide the aches and pains.

My sacroiliac's protest
results in facing daily test
of overcoming devil's pact
to suppress my passion for active knowledge quest.

The Tin Can Navy roams the high seas
in search of submarine enemies.
Bouncing around on rolling waves,
we tried to send our foes to ocean graves,
while defending our liberties.

We went without the luxuries,
endured despite a few miseries,
because of challenges the crew braves
in the Tin Can Navy.

Our many nautical odysseys
to distant places provided the keys
to great adventures a young man craves.
These days, I ride nostalgic waves
across a sea of memories
from the Tin Can Navy.

Author's notes:

1. The Rondeau is a French form of poetry with a specific pattern of rhyme and repetition, as described and demonstrated in the following link: http://www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/wip/rondeau.html .

2. The Tin Can Navy is the nickname given to the class of Navy ships known as "Destroyers," possibly because of the way they rock and roll around on the waves, or possibly because they were considered dispensable vessels as they protected more valuable assets, such as aircraft carriers and battleships, from enemy submarines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFgBJbUh9t8 .

Blizzard,
whipping snow across the highway,
creating chaos for
folks who want to
go home.

Relaxing in a coffeeshop
with friends who share my mellow tone
is something I would never swap.

Christmas holiday
I must spend away
this year.
Chilling ocean spray
will be our display
austere.
Sending love your way
while we're underway,
my dear.

Seed the furrows of your mind.
Read the books of ancient lore.
Heed the lessons brought to bear.
Feed from wisdom's lavish store.

White paper taunts the brain.
Write to feed the empty page.
Fight to quench thirst for knowledge
citing vivid details to engage.

Thanksgiving meal
say Grace and carve turkey
oyster dressing heightens appeal
quickly consumed
with zeal.

Blue
has texture
of glass window pane
in chill of dawn's early light.
Smooth.

Blue
has fragrance
of daisies waving
in springtime meadow's gentle
breeze.

Blue
evokes taste
of white chocolate
ice cream on hot summer day.
Cool.

Blue
joins joyous
meadowlark's chorus
to lift us up in morning
song.

Blue
wraps itself
around our spirit
and injects the essence with
zest.

Through frosty window,
I see snowflakes dance
a winter ballet,
while fireplace crackles
in sanctuary--
time warp to a dream.
