The Carolina beaches beckon me
to take my leading lady by the hand
and journey with her down by the sea.
The Carolina beaches beckon me
to do what will transform “me” into “we,”
while spending all day shagging in the sand.
The Carolina beaches beckon me
to take my leading lady by the hand.

When mystic melodies
surround my soul with breezy airs
along the thoroughfares,
where people go to snare a spot
for momentary thought,
releasing overwrought concern,
I take relaxing turn
with spirit guide for learning ease.
Notes on Luc Bat form of poetry ▼
The luc bat is a Vietnamese poetic form that means “six-eight.”
Number of Lines: min 8 lines
Rules:
The poem consists of alternating lines of six and eight syllables.
This poem is interesting in its rhyme scheme that renews at the end of every eight-syllable line and rhymes on the sixth syllable of both lines.
The odd lines (1,3,5,etc) are six sound units and the even lines (2,4,6 etc) are eight sound units long, hence the title. The rhyming scheme is simple also. The last word (sixth sound unit) of the odd lines rhymes with the sixth sound unit of the even line and the eighth sound unit rhymes with the sixth unit of the next odd line. The final even line, linking back to the first line.
Meter:
Alternating lines of six and eight syllables
Rhyme Scheme:
Here’s a diagram of how the first few lines of luc bat poems should rhyme:
xxxxxA
xxxxxAxB
xxxxxB
xxxxxBxC

The greedy birds of Wall Street build their nests
in lofty skyscrapers with stone facades
and hang artistic renderings of tulips
by Georgia O'Keefe on their walls
to maintain the pretense
of contact with nature.
The old oak tree drones a haunting requiem.
Their Caterpillars rape our land,
stripping vibrant flowers from the earth,
so concrete slabs and asphalt strips
can displace the green, green grass of home,
while factories spit poisonous phlegm
into our rivers and plastic waste
suffocates our whales.
Ka-ching! The music of cash flow blinds their soul.
The old oak tree drones a haunting requiem.
Tree huggers would have us plant wind turbine orchards
to feed voracious hunger for the energy
which lights our castles and fuels our gizmos.
Political rain muddies the stream of reason.
Will tulips grow in a solar panel garden?
I think not.
The old oak tree drones a haunting requiem.

When school bells ring to start another year,
the torch of inspiration flares again,
as students enter academic sphere,
eager to launch scholastic regimen,
where books become like vital oxygen.
Joyful laughter fills noisy hallways there,
and lore is served with chocolate éclair.
Creative thoughts emerge like butterflies
from dark cocoon with pure delight to share
through words on paper, which will mesmerize.
Notes ▼
1. Composed in Dizain form for " Invalid Item" and for " Stormy's poetry newsletter & contest" with required words school bells laughter noisy hallway books paper butterflies.
2. Form: Dizain
Number of lines: 10 (one 10-lined stanza)

The Dizain gets us back in the French form domain, which as regular readers know is a favorite of mine. This particular form was a favorite of 15th and 16th-century French poets, but it has also been employed in English by the likes of Philip Sidney and John Keats.
Here are the basic rules of the Dizain:
One 10-line stanza
10 syllables per line
Employs the following rhyme scheme: ababbccdcd

Musing, freed from mental cage
through the poet's pen,
gliding down to empty page,
like our backyard wren,
viewed through poem's microscope,
nondescript affair
manifests itself as hope,
guiding how we care.
Notes on 7/5 Trochee form of poetry ▼
Number of Lines: minimum of 8 (two quatrains)
Rules:
The 7/5 Trochee, created by Andrea Dietrich, of 2 or more quatrain stanzas with the following set rules:
Meter: 7/5/7/5
Rhyme Scheme: a/b/c/b or a/b/a/b
The meter is trochee, which means alternating stressed and unstressed beats in each line, with each line beginning and ending in a stressed syllable. This is a simple lyrical type little poem, so rhymes will be basic, nothing fancy. The poem itself should give a description of something of interest to the poet. There is not a set number of these quatrain type stanzas, but a typical 7/5 Trochee would consist of two quatrains, with the second stanza serving to tie up the idea presented in the first stanza.
Choices for the poets to make this week: Your poem can be about any topic.
