Only 2 more weeks of school left in this semester! Better yet, I should only have 1 semester left before I graduate! (I haven't spoken to a counselor in a while but I'm pretty sure all the credits are there!) I'm trying to decide what career field to go into, as I've always had an interest in working for myself, but I am well aware that I'll need further schooling to chase that dream. I'd really like to be a personal trainer, but you'd be surprised at how many deaf people really aren't into physical fitness.

Aside from that note, I have this thing where I spend too much time doing something, I start to lose focus. I become really uninterested and I don't really care what the outcome is, I just want it to be done. I am, of course, referring to school. This is the second year I've taken classes both semesters, and I am just starting to fade. The fallout from this is that my grades suffer and, in turn so does my GPA. I just can't stay on task!!! I go through different epoch's within the year, all of which start out with me giving 110% then slowly downgrade as time goes on. It's so frustrating!!! Part of me wishes that I could get a whole class done within a month and call it good, but that's just not the way the world works. It's just not catered to small-minded ADD folks such as myself. I feel like I'm never going to succeed, and I'll never have a meaningful career, and that thought alone makes me feel so despondent. Then when I look for jobs I'm overwhelmed and I just want to give up on the whole idea of being responsible and having a job or a career. I'm not sure that I deserve one.

I don't have a plan. I don't have goals. I live from day to day, like an animal. I have a mental block that prevents me from thinking long-term. I have a husband that spoils me, even though I'm constantly being harassed to get a real career. That, alone, adds pressure. Not to mention how maddening it is, also because when he has questions about what I'm going to do, I get upset because I don't have answers.

Prompt: "Simplicity and repose are the qualities that measure the true value of any work of art." ----Frank Lloyd Wright. What do you think is the true value of art?

As an artist, (not really the kind that paints pictures but I still craft things, as well as being a writer. I consider those things artistic), I believe the value of art is priceless. When an artist gets a vision, the idea itself isn't worth anything until the artist can turn it into something that can physically be enjoyed. Art is a window into the mind of the artist as well as evidence of how we all perceive things differently. Art separates us from reality and has the power to take us into the mind's eye, which no scientist has the ability to do. Therefore, you can't put a price on something that cannot be measured in terms of material. It is priceless.

"Blog City Prompt ForumOpen in new Window.
Prompt: Since we have such short lives, what is wrong with us people to even have the concept of boredom? What is your take on the subject?

Having ease to just about anything we could ask for is, in my opinion, the reason boredom exists. We say to ourselves, "I can do that whenever I want, just not right now," speaks to the notion that we have unlimited time. If there's one thing I actually learned from my economics class, it's that our resources are limited, which includes time. But since we've become so lazy thanks to drive-thru restaurants and television, (only to name a couple), there's one thing that aids in our boredom. Thanks to television, we can sit on the couch all day and not have to lift a finger in order to be entertained, and yet it's still boring. We say to ourselves, "I'm bored, I think I'll watch tv." But that doesn't really solve anything. It just occupies the mind so we don't think about all the things we could be doing in lieu of sitting on the couch. It actually takes effort to get out and do something. Why not opt in to just watching the tv? It doesn't use as much energy as going for a walk or building something. Lastly, I'm reminded of something my grandpa used to say: "If you're bored then you must be a boring person."
