A new kind of writing - everyday art.
This is Steve. He's my imaginary friend. My sister's imaginary friend, who works part-time as my conscience, is currently visiting relatives in Florida. We doubt he'll come back until all this cold white stuff is gone. So in the meantime, I've got Steve to pester me and be that photo that just won't develop in the darkroom of my mind.

This "journal" consists of notes to Steve. Perfectly simple. Nothing extraordinary here.

It's getting down to the grind, Steve. I dunno how much longer I'm gonna be able to hold out. Big Louie and Jim keep letting me know exactly where I stand, and Rich doesn't know about either of them yet, and last time I saw Zach, he said he'd heard rumors that that Nick fellow was loping around. I'm down to the wire, man. Ain't you got any money yet?

Hey Steve, haven't seen you in a while man, how's life? How's the family? I gotta tell you, I was talking to Odetta the other day, you know the chick who calls herself Odetta down Shoffer way, and she said I should tell you hi. Seems she's been stretching it pretty thin with work and everything. Anyway what the heck, I told her we should all get together sometime and hang, y'know? And I mean it, Steve...if you don't wanna, that's okay, but I think a pinch of old friends is worth a pound of new ones, if you get my drift.

Look man, I'm pretty down. I've been slumpin' around the house too long, and you know, that just gets you down after a while. Remember all the folks we used to hang out with? Bill, and Pegi, and even Bobby Sue? God, those were the days. But you know, Steve, I'm kinda glad they're over. I mean, I don't wanna hurt no one's feelings or anything, but...well, we really lived it up back then. Didn't care what no one else said. Anyways, like I was sayin', I got all sad thinkin' about those guys, and the way we used to rave it up all over town, Bobby with his roof down and Pegi just settin' on the back there, with her hair blowin' out gold like Liberty incarnate? Oh man, I dunno what I'm sayin'. I should probably do the laundry.

Steve, man, I dunno if I can put up with this for much longer. Two bucks, man, two smackeroos could get me outta this place. I know you've got a family and all, but come on, give a guy a break. It's been five years, you realize that, Steve? Five freakin' years. I dunno. It's just--it gets depressing, you know what I'm sayin'? Anyway...I guess I'll just go on waiting. But if you don't cough up soon, buddy...
