An exclusive auction & raffle to raise funds for groups and activities across Writing.Com
Welcome to...

Banner image for The Cube.

What is The Cube? It's an exclusive fundraiser - both auction and raffle - for groups and activities across Writing.Com.

How does The Cube work? This is a 4x4x4 activity... that is, an activity that runs no more than four times per year, with only four Auction prize packages and four beneficiaries per cycle. Each Auction package contains a whole bunch of goodies, as well as an exclusive Cube Merit Badge! That means only a maximum of 20 Cube Merit Badges will be given out for this activity each year, with almost no chance of acquiring one in any other way!

But, um, isn't four badges/packages four times a year only sixteen total badges? Yes! But in order to make sure these Cube Merit Badges don't all go to the high-rollers who can drop some serious GPs on the Auction packages, a fifth Cube Merit Badge will be awarded each cycle to the winner of the Raffle, which will run concurrently with the Auction.

THE BENEFICIARIES

Beneficiaries of the current round of The Cube are as follows:

         25% to "Anniversary Reviews

25% to "Showering Acts of Joy Group

25% to "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group

         25% to "NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon Group

Financial Donations may be made directly to "Banque de Cube (Group #1995692). All donations will be divided equally among the beneficiaries. Anyone donating 50,000 Gift Points or more in a single transaction will receive a Merit Badge paid from my personal funds.

Generous Donors

Prize Cube Donations may be made sent using the following form:

You will be contacted if there is an issue or concern with your offering (e.g. redundant or conflicting prize with what's already been offered in that prize cube... upgraded membership when a premium is already being offered, more reviews of a specific type when there are already a ton of them being offered, etc.). I reserve the right to consolidate (with proper credit of course) donations of the same type for easy reference. For example, instead of three different short story review offerings, the item on the prize package might read, "30 Short Story Reviews from User A (10), User B (10), and User C (10)." IMPORTANT NOTE

THE AUCTION

*Bulletr* The opening bid for each prize cube is 100,000 Gift Points. Subsequent bids must be in increments of no less than 1,000 Gift Points. For example, if the current bid is at 116,000 GPs, your bid must be at least 117,000 GPs.

*Bulletr* The Auction starts at 12:00am WdC time on Saturday, October 25, 2014 and closes at 11:59pm WdC time on Monday, November 3rd, 2014. Any bids time-stamped 12:00am or later will not be accepted.

*Bulletr* If you win an Auction prize cube, you are ineligible to win the Raffle. Should your ticket be chosen, you will instead receive 10,000 Gift Points (the cost of the Cube Merit Badge), and a new Raffle winner will be randomly chosen.

*Bulletr* Auction bids must be posted in the forum below. They will not be accepted via email, instant message, newsfeed comment, or any other forms of communication. Please indicate your bid amount and desired prize cube in the subject line of your post, e.g., "120K for Alpha."

*Bulletr* Auction participants will be notified by email of their winning bid. Please do not send GPs until you've received the email confirming that you've won! You have the option of enclosing GPs for winning Auction bids in a forum post below or by sending separately to Group #1995692 (they both go to the same place). Please do not send GPs to me directly.

*Bulletr* Prize cube winners are welcome to divvy up their spoils. Winners will have an opportunity to reply to their notification email and provide me with a breakdown of how the prize cube's contents are to be distributed. You will not be allowed to split up individual donations unless they are noted with a *Puzzle1* emoticon. For example, if your prize package consists of 30 short story reviews (10 from User A, 10 from User B, and 10 from User C), you cannot sub-divide those blocks of 10 reviews. But you can give all 30 reviews to one person, 10 to each of three different people, 20 to one person and 10 to another, etc.

*Bulletr* COLLABORATIVE BIDDING: Each prize cube's contents may be bid upon and distributed among multiple WdC members. Members and groups are more than welcome to combine funds in order to win a prize cube, and then divide up the spoils. However, those arrangements are to be made independently of this activity, and neither I nor this activity will accept responsibility for those arrangements. I will not serve as an arbiter of those arrangements. You are on your own to handle the mechanics of these collaborations; the concerns of this activity are limited to whose name is on the bid that wins. *Smile* SUGGESTION

THE RAFFLE

*Bulletr* Tickets to the raffle cost 5,000 GPs each and can be purchased anytime up until the end of the auction (11:59pm WdC time on November 3, 2014). You can include payment in your post in the forum below, or send it separately to Group #1995692 (they both go to the same place). Please do not send GPs to me directly.

*Bulletr* Raffle winners will be determined by Virtual Dice. If you win an Auction prize package, you are ineligible to win the Raffle. Should your ticket be chosen, you will instead receive 10,000 Gift Points (the cost of the Cube Merit Badge), and a new winner will be randomly chosen. Repeat as necessary until the Raffle winner is not also an Auction winner.

*Bulletr* Raffle ticket purchases must be posted in the forum below. They will not be accepted via email, instant message, newsfeed comment, or any other forms of communication. Please indicate the number of tickets in the subject line of your post, e.g., "2 tickets for Raffle."
