Prompt #18 A Sonnet
by A Non-Existent User
A House Full of Love

Scotch-taped on the walls are my kid's artistry
Trains and bugs layered in a rich tapestry.
On the floor, a maze of Legos and Hot Wheels
Sans toys collected from past Happy Meals.
Three open doors lead to three sanctuaries
Three precious ones all snug in their jammies.
My first precious one is a handsome big boy
Smart and funny he is, my source of great joy.
Next is my princess in her pretty pink bed
She smiles in her sleep, sweet dreams in her head.
The third door last, albeit certainly not least
Tis’ my true lover, not a foe, not a beast.
In my spouse’s warm hug, I fit like a glove
Peacef’lly I sleep in our house full of love.

***

This is a sonnet I wrote (in less than 1 hour, plus another hour for revising and editing *Laugh*) that best describes my happy home. The first sestet describes the physical part of our home and the second octave describes my two children and husband, who are the most important parts of our home.

Keeping each line with 10 to 11 syllables was a challenge. But I enjoyed creating the rhyme scheme of aa, bb, cc, dd, ee, ff, and gg.

I usually write at night when everyone's sound asleep, just the quiet tapping on my keyboard can be heard around the house. At close to midnight, I shut down the computer, turn off the lights, then I tiptoe down the hallway, stopping at each room to check on my little sleepyheads. Then get into bed, warm and snuggly, with my husband who mumbles "G'night, Sweetie Pie. Wuv you."*Smile*

Thank you Popcorn Joy for the inspiration of Prompt #18. It's because of this prompt that I was able to conjure a beautiful sonnet about my family. My husband and children loved it, too.
