Alone and
beside one boundary
overseeing the country road
stood an old macrocarpa tree,
the abandoned attempt at a hedge.
While I sat quietly on the stump,
several feet from the ground
a light breeze caressed the leaves.
Flickered dappled sunlight, cascading
to reach thick branches below me.
Not wanting to leave. The height,
appealing
and kind.
Hiding me
from those
walking below.
