Re: FINALE - Round 3
FREE VERSE - Death Personified

"Death Is a Salesman

He doesn’t tap twice,
but the postman is his friend.

He’ll knock when you least expect it,
like when you’re in the shower
--with shampoo-filled hair,
or on the toilet
--conducting important business.

It isn’t brushes, vacuum cleaners or
encyclopedias he’s selling.

It’s the afterlife – whether you want it or not.

And when you answer your door,
he’ll peel back his lips in a skeletal grin and ask,
“did you purchase purgatory or
pearly gates for your next home?”

PANTOUM - Seduction

"Religious Seduction of Humanity

Drinking from the cup of God is an intoxicating temptation,
as tongues lick eternal life promises into the curves of starving ears.
Does God fall to His knees and howl His pain at the horrors done in His name,
And do the ghosts of the innocent haunt Heaven’s halls?

Tongues lick eternal life promises into the curves of starving ears.
Ancient Saracen might fought Crusader right - or the other way ‘round.
Do you suppose the ghosts of the wicked haunt Hell’s halls?
“Deus Volt,” was the Crusaders climactic cry – it made blood-soaked swords divine.

Ancient Saracen right fought Crusader might - or the other way ‘round.
In today’s Holy War, people are no longer human beings – but symbols of sin
Do they cry, “deus volt,” to make their blood-soaked hands divine?
Religion used to further political agendas – whispered words of sweet seduction.

In today’s Holy War, people are not thought of as human beings – but symbols of sin
Soldiers pierce the children in their wombs even as they pierce the hearts of their enemies.
Religion used to further personal agendas – whispered words of sweet seduction.
A hero’s death is their shuddering orgasm, cuddling their faith in the afterglow.

Soldiers pierce the children in their wombs even as they pierce the hearts of their enemies.
Drinking from the cup of God is an intoxicating temptation,
A hero’s death is their shuddering orgasm, cuddling their faith in the afterglow.
I know God must fall to His knees and howl His pain at the horrors done in His name.

Authors note: Deus Volt means: God wills it.
