A sanctuary for weary writers, inky wretches, and aspiring professional novelists. |
I can't edit as I write. I'd never finish a paragraph. In fact, I take this so far, I won't even scan the current page for typos or spelling errors. If I do, I'm doomed. It starts out with catching a misspelled wordor a typo, and before you know it I've got a full-blown rewrite in progress. I made a pact with self long ago that I have permission to begin each writing session with a check of the last two complete pages. No more than that, or I'll find myself in that dread state, "paralysis by analysis." On the spot editing does work for a very few. I'm just not one of them. And someone mentioned that they've learned they have permission to write crap. That may be one of the most important writing-related epiphanies any of us will ever experience. *salute* For more "stuff" visit: http://LiamJackson.com "Have you ever been caught hiding bodies in your closet?
