I've tried plotting out my ideas before I start writing, but I always end up bored and launch into the story. I always have a general idea of what I want to happen, but in the end like Jessiebelle said "I'm discovering it, learning from my characters, letting my subconscious lead me there" I'm the same way. My characters start leading me to exactly who they are. I do make a general character sketch before I start writing just to get some basics down for them.
