I think the 5 groups you are referring to are the ones that are sponsored. You don't have to pay gift points to the groups, so don't worry. If you go to the groups page again, all you have to do is scroll further down and you'll see more groups. If there's a specific type of group you want to join, let me know and I'll send you a link.
