While the literal "father" of Earth's leap into faster-than-light travel I believe Zefram Cochrane was an Engineer, Scientist and Dreamer first and foremost. Captaincy as an honorary title but he was no Katherine Janeway... (was that blasphemy...?)

As for the dishonorable---and infinitely HOT--- Duras sisters, as "heads" of their fallen house after the death of their scheming brother Lursa and B'Etor had access and command of several ships but the show never addressed them in that fashion. Besides, we all know they were really just Klingon eye candy...

Please don't mention ENTERPRISE, I can still smell Archer's dog...or is that him?
I'd nominate Neelix before anyone from ENTERPRISE and that should truly express my disdain...

The Vulcan captain of the starship which made first contact is, like the Romulan captain in "Balance of Terror" too vaguely characterized to warrant any type of voting.

The Borg Queen must be excluded by default. She IS the Borg, every ship, every installation, every drone. That degree of plurality puts her in an entirely different category which nobody but a Q could compete in.
