Woops, sorry I misinterpreted settlements. Somehow I still had fort in mind :) I agree with you entirely, that's what I had in mind when I kept ranting on about villages - places that know of each other but aren't so closely linked. Which is just perfect really - not too far, not too near. Travelling is possible but not problematic :)
