Someone said in a forum before that it's okay to be cliche since EVERYTHING *IS* today! XD You can hardly find anything original these days, and if it's too original/not mainstream, not many people will like it anyway.

You can, however, make a unique *writing style* of your own or combine a rare writing style with a cliche idea, and it's actually not bad in my opinion. *Smile* I recently wrote an anime fanfiction in a (not really unique but) uncommon writing style, but the idea has actually been picked up by someone else (well, since it's a character's back story, it's hardly an original idea to begin with). But I don't back away just because it's been taken before. As long as we add our own flavor, I think a cliche story can be a really fresh and unique one. Good luck! n_~*
