Two Shall Become One Poetry Contest

Written in Saraband Sonnet form using the Emily Dickinson quote: To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else.


To Live

To live is more than ships of dreams
Tossed into sea against the wind
To struggle free with panicked screams.

It is a strength which soothes the night
While resonating brilliant light;
So startling, it might first appear
Yet quickly tames each inner fear.

A soul ignites, leaves little time
To entertain self doubt within;
Ambitious will begins to climb.

Determination feeds each breath
For anything else leads to death;
To cower in the midst of strife
Is to relinquish one's own life.
