Using Proper Nouns (Store & Brand Names)
I've heard a lot of people say you shouldn't use things like brand names in stories because it can date a story - especially things related to a trend like 'LG Chocolate'. But I've been thinking about wondering about this, specifically because I have a Hot Topic that makes a brief appearance in one of my stories and this is what I'm wondering:

Am I better off just describing the store and hoping that people today get it, but knowing that a lot of people won't based on description alone

Or

Should I just give in and put the name in there so that it's recognizable at least to a certain population since I don't figure my story will be a timeless classic anyway?

(sorry for the weighted questions, but that's the way I'm looking at it *Smile*)
