I was asked what is meant by "Political Setting."

Where and when does your novel take place? Not specific, detailed setting, but global setting. What country? What year? Is it historical? Current? Future? Completely fantastic? What is the government like? Who is in charge? What are the laws in place? How are the laws enforced? How does this affect your story and characters?
