What do 11 year old girls want to read about?

I'm trying to write an assignment for a 'writing for children' course, involving writing a story for an 11 year old girl. The course teaches that you should move from the known to the unknown, and I have an idea on the known, but can't remember what sort of 'unknown' things an 11 year old girl would want to read about. For the known I've got a school disco. Does anyone know any 11 year old girls they could ask? Or have any idea how I could research my market?
