One other option for this type of thing (besides the {hide} tag) is the "Notepad". I used to never use it, but now I use it to keep track of contests I've entered, donations I've given away, and "to-do" notes for items. (And much more!).

I'd suggest it over individual notes in items, since you can see everything you've entered at once on a notepad page.

As for your specific problem, some people (at the bottom of the page or top in their item) will link the contest it was entered into in order to promote said contest and to remind themselves that it was entered.

Let me know if you have any questions about these features. A little "notes" section in an item would be handy though... but I feel it might be unnecessary due to the other features on this site which can help with the same thing.
