Completely OT, but I am now going to spend the rest of my day inappropriately mixing the letters i and e whenever possible, and occasionally even inserting them in words where they never belonged
What Raven says about quests in fantasy is interesting - it's something I've never thought about before/always associated more with games. What both of you are saying is interesting, but that bit stood out the most to me. When I think about what little High Fantasy I have read (which would be LOTR and the Dragonlance books), that's exactly the case. But that extends back beyond fantasy. You see a lot of that in Greek mythology for instance, especially when it comes to the heroes. Then again, I guess that's technically a fantasy pre-cursor to To*k*n, so...
Does that make Greek mythology the original fantasy, or are there fantastic stories we tell now that originate even before then?
