A nano place to chat about NanoWrimo... |
I recently bought a new laptop for the first time, and a week ago I downloaded OpenOffice as my word processing software for Nano this year. I tried using it for the first time today, and I wrote about 1200 words. I encountered some problems that I hope someone can help me with. The first problem involves making a mistake, then going back to correct it, and a black cursor appears that erases all characters in front of the spot I'm correcting. For example, say I typed "fgo" when I was trying to type "go" and I went to erase the "f" the g would get erased, and if I tried to type a g to replace it, then the o gets erased. This is very problematic for me when the mistake is in the center of a paragraph, because I would end up being forced to re-type the entire paragraph because every time I type or use the space bar, another letter gets erased. The other problem is this: I'll be typing a sentence, and the cursor skips back to a random area of a preceding paragraph and the sentence I'm typing is moved to the middle of a paragraph where I don't want it. This combined with the first problem makes it impossible to correct any mistakes I make as I go along. Is anyone familiar with OpenOffice.org and can you help me with these problems before Nano starts? ---Ace ps-- the story I was writing today had nothing to do with Nano, so I wasn't cheating.
