Wherever you post your novel on the web, it is a good idea to have a copy for yourself. That is why most of us write it in Word or in some other similar file in our computers. It is even a better idea to have a back-up copy in a flash drive or CD.
If you want to post your novel in WdC, a book item is the preferred form, especially if you write chapter by chapter.
I write mine in Word, look it over, and do a little fixing. Then I copy and paste it in a regular static item here. That way, I don't mess up the word count. Last year, I had 52 K plus words and it took two static items with my WdC subscription. I do it this way because I want to see what I have written so far in its totality.
Btw, using simple everyday language and lots of dialogue helps the word count greatly.
