Does this word count sounds right?

This is my first year doing this so bear with me here. The NaNoWriMo website is a little slow and won't load correctly for me. I typed my novel in MS Word 2007. On the bottom left corner, it said my word count is 1,279 which surprised me! I can't have typed that much... So now I'm wondering if I shouldn't use MS Word for the word count?

I have a bout 2 pages with 1 inch margin all the way around, roughly around 7 paragraphs with at least a dozen sentences that are pretty decent size...

...So eh?
