But just keep repeating this mantra: December is for editing. December is for editing. December is for editing.

If you don't write a bad novel, then you will not have a novel to edit. It sounds much more writer-like to say, "I'm editing my novel." rather than "I'm editing my single novel chapter that I keep redoing."
