I got a message today from the Office of Letters and Light - I guess it probably went out to all the MLs of all of the regions. They try to anticipate growth every year and hope they have enough power in the servers to handle it (remember, this event started in 1999 as 21 people in Berkeley, CA using the month of November to get serious about getting a novel banged out... and last year there were more than 167,000 people!!).
They said the site might be slower for a day or two as they get things settled and whatnot, but after that it should run as normal. Every year they seem to work amazing magic in a short amount of time and get the site back to normal fairly quickly. It is frustrating - but it's not just you.
Good Luck and Happy Noveling!
