I kind of understand what you mean. I work overnights and sleep during the day, but I have those toss-and-turn days at times and can't sleep. A lot of those times, I will end up sitting at the computer working on various writing projects for a while. I think the "sense of accomplishment" eventually helps me shot down my mind and get some sleep. The drawback -- I sometimes end up with only two hours of sleep before going in for a 12-hour duty shift. I'll have to see if it affects my NaNoWriMo output this time around. (I'm also lucky that I will most likely have chances at my job to work on my NaNoWriMo project, which will also help the sleep!) And hey... sometimes you just have to take your inspiration when and where it comes along. As I'm sure we all know, "The Muse" tends to be rather fickle about whispering in our ears!
