Last year, I wrote a mystery starring a Troll detective and his Pixie partner. It came out pretty well. I liked it, anyway. This year, I'm trying something that was originally intended to be an entry for October's round of Beyond the Water's Edge. I didn't get started on it until late, and ended up not having it ready for entry by the deadline, but I liked the concept, which was a showdown in a western ghost town between a gunslinger/wizard and his family's ancient nemesis, the evil wizard who the gunslinger's parents died to defeat. Diminished but undefeated, the evil one has transplanted himself from northern Germany to Colorado, where he resumes his antagonism with the scions of his ancient enemy. The outline for the story got expanded and became the outline for the novel. It's going pretty well so far, with shootouts, magical duels, and dead people rising up from the grave... lots of fun stuff like that, as well as the Sheriff who suddenly finds himself embroiled with magicians and forced to acknowledge stuff he never believed in, the deserter who is faced with the opportunity to revise his cowardly view of himself, the outlaw whose quest for revenge puts him under the thumb of a far greater evil than he, and many other fun characters, all in a little town called Rattler's Fang, Colorado, home of Thaddeus Gadsden's lesser-known, played out silver mine. Yee-haw! Best regards, Greg ** Image ID #1632402 Unavailable ** |
