My strategy for Nano is to write 24 chapters, with each chapter containing a minimum of 2,100 words. I plot out my chapters with chapter outlines, and sometimes I use up all of the outline information and I'm only at 1300 or 1700 words. When this happens, my characters seem to come alive and do things on their own until the word count passes 2,100 words.
Nano is forcing me to write in a way that makes me add more character development and add more details than I ever would if I was trying to plot out a story on my own. Can anyone else relate to this? Is Nano making your characters come to life and do things characters wouldn't be doing in a normal story you might write at other times of the year?
