A nano place to chat about NanoWrimo... |
Ace, I'm not working on as structured of a writing plan as you are (my chapter breaks just seem to happen on their own or when it "feels" right). But yes, my characters are are somewhat coming to life and adding in things as I go along and write them. Case in point -- one of my characters just had a minor asthma attack; until it appeared on the computer screen, I had no clue she had asthma! I actually have that happen quite a bit of the time, not just related to or during NaNoWriMo. I tend to do at least the background basics (age, height, weight, gender, race/ethnicity, marital status and general background items) for all of my major characters, and at least some of those basics for minor / supporting ones. Yet as I go along, a lot of things will start creeping in that add to or flesh out the original information. An example -- in a story I was working on a few weeks before this NaNo started, a medium-level character suddenly revealed he was a widower of eight years and a former Marine helicopter pilot. Things neither the other characters nor I knew about him before that was written. That's actually one of the things I enjoy about writing, how your creativity (and that of your characters) can go in unexpected directions and add to your your challenge. And now... to grab a little more coffee ![]() ![]() "NaNo-Nano!" SkyHawk - Into The Music ![]() ![]() ![]() |
