Well, the way I see it, philosophy is a way of writing a handbook on the universe as experienced by the human consciousness, whether trough spirituality, humanism, existentialism, nihilism, or whatever the writer's POV. Fables, with their obligatory moral, are another way to do the same thing. I think Aesop and his fellow 'fablers' were teaching all the little Greeks, et. al. how to think about life, humanity and existence.
I dunno; maybe I'm way off base... but it seems that way to me.
