I have to agree with some of your comments. I loved the star trek stuff but this movie did defy logic and my own idea of how the group got started. yeah, and not at the academy at the same time.
I think they did note that it might not mesh with original series, so we were warned.
I suppose the creators had to make it palatable for a newer modern audience. they were inventive. Not my fav for sure . Don't know that I would watch it again soon.
