You're into spooky zone when you start on this subject. I always recommend 'Man and His Symbols' by Carl Jung. Adolph Hitler and Stalin are inside all of us just waiting for the opportunity to come out. The Greeks used to say 'an honest man is a rogue who lacks opportunity'. Every character is part of you. If the writer is a man - even the women characters are part of the writer.
