That is a lot of information but I'll focus on a few things. Great that you have started prepping, I find that doing a month worth of prep. I usually take part in "October Novel Prep Challenge" [13+] because it has a fun system for preparing for nano though it does require more outlines than I would ever do.
As for the worry of people wanting to read your original characters - don't worry too much about that. I've never done fan fiction but have friends who do that and it seems fun, but at the same time it is fun to write your own characters too. Plus, nanowrimo is more about getting the words down. It's a first draft (or some people consider it draft zero) and the main point is to get the story out because it can always be fixed later in rewrites. What constitutes likeable varies depending on the type of reader and even if the book isn't publishable for some reason or another, you still have a book you wrote for yourself. If you like it, that's what really matters.
