Ember, I understand what your husband is dealing with. The last two years, I was able to take my laptop in to work and plug away at my NaNo story during down time. Not an option this year, as the bosses banned laptops for any non-work reasons a few months ago.So instead of getting some writing done every day, I am doing huge chunks every three to for days or so. Not how I wanted to do it, but so far I've been productive (I hope that keeps up). Tmor, What other folks are saying here is right. Don't worry so much about the daily word total as getting your ideas down on paper / in the computer and letting them flow. You do that, and I think you'll hit that 50,000-word goal by the end of the month. And don't be afraid to let your ideas lead you somewhere you didn't expect. It may change your story in a small way or even a big way, but go with it. Because those little detours may end up yielding a huge bounty. I had that happen just this morning, in fact. When I sat down about 2:30 a.m. to write (I work / live an overnight schedule), I "knew" what topic I wanted to cover. Then a few paragraphs in, something came up - a visit to family that I didn't even have in my plot notes. Five hours and over 5600 words later, I had hit the finishing point for the chapter while still visiting the family. And my original was topic still lurking in the wings. So don't be afraid to take that side trip -- it could very possibly yield an incredible bounty of writing. Keep writing, folks!
