A nano place to chat about NanoWrimo... |
Ember, You're not kidding about making sure you back up! I haven't had that with NaNoWriMo, but years ago in college I was almost finished with a term paper when the computer center had to take down a server. Of course, it was the server that the networked Macs in the center could access MSWord on, and I hadn't been saving to my own computer's hard drive or to a disk. I damn near wanted to cry! I sure didn't make THAT mistake again! These days, I've got two flash drives that I use to back up my work (as well as shift it between my home computer and laptop). What I'll do is save often to the hard rive of the computer I'm working on, and about half as regularly copy everything over to the flash drives (being sure to save the newer version, of course). Some of my friends and coworkers think I'm nuts to do this, but using the two flash drives means I have a backup for my backup. Not to mention making it easy to move the files between computers -- plug in, drag-and-drop, copy over and there you go! Like I said, some folks think I'm nuts, but I like the extra security and portability. And when I've got a new chapter done, I copy it over to my WDC version of the story. Ace, I actually have two MSWord versions of the story going, one in regular typing and one with the WDC WritingML included so I can just copy and paste the whole thing into my story here. It's a little intensive on the writing at times, but it seems to be working (so far). Keep writing! NaNo NaNo! ![]() SkyHawk - Into The Music ![]() ![]() |
