         You're right about the devil being in the details. And remember - if you don't get certain details right, that devil will pitchfork you!

         I will often do some research (depending on the subject) when I'm setting up my outline / time line / plot notes before I start actually writing. But I often find myself needing to check something as I go along. Thank heavens for Google and the Internet! Many is the occasion where I've popped over to my web browser and surfed a bit to make sure I've got something right. It doesn't take long, but can add immensely to your story (especially to its credibility).
