Just thought I'd chime in: I have 10 entries in my NaNo book item now, and when I check the Word Count here on WDC, it is in every case precisely the same as MS Word gives me.

I'm running the latest Word - back when I had the 2003 version, sometimes the word count would be different.

Of course, I don't know what will happen when it's pasted into the NaNoWriMo site for the final check.
