This question/request comes up every once in awhile. I believe the general answer from WDC staff is that they want every reviewer to review an item based on his/her own thoughts and opinions. If public reviews were widely accessible from within the item, reviewers could read those reviews and be influenced to give a certain number of stars or comment in similar ways as others.
