Re: Painting Word Pictures
Okay Dave,
I'm totally going to cheat on this one, but this is one of my favorites that I have written. You will see that use of both metaphor and simile in this poem. I had one other poem that I was going to choose, It used personification in addition to these two devices.

Wandering the northern forest of light.
Completely breathtaking beauty displayed.
Shines the aurora, the rainbow of night.

Colors of inspiration twinkling bright,
Like waves of sky beckoning to come play.
Wandering the northern forest of light.

A prism in the wind winding with delight.
Colors unfurling colors on their way.
Shines the aurora, the rainbow of night.

A dance of enchantment, the fairies kite.
Alluring, moving, their shimmering sway.
Wandering the northern forest of light.

Dancing, twinkling, playing, bending the lights.
Awestruck, beholding their beautiful ray.
Wandering the northern forest of light.
Shines the aurora, the rainbow of night.
