Don't blame you. It's a considerably better story than most people have given it credit for. I think the "hooker with a heart of gold" stereotype caused a lot of people to not take it seriously.
My wife loves that movie too. She won't admit that our older son is named "Edward" because of that movie, but she was pregnant the first time she saw it.
