Email notice from group calenders

I'm not sure if this has been suggested previously but I wondered..

Would it be possible to have a way of being notified when an event on the group calender is nearing? In an email perhaps? It would be a cool thing if it would notify only the people who want to be notified of such things. That way not every member in the group has to deal with extra emails if they don't want to.

I have a hard time remembering all the birthdays and account anniversaries but like to know when they are, or be notified, instead of making notes everywhere and then still forgetting about them.

Would that be a possibility?
