I whitelist many sites like Newgrounds that offer their services for free, but only if their ads don't get in the way of my experience. Annoying ads are like having cicada on one ear, chirping loudly for eight seconds every time you load a page, while having ants crawl over you as you browse. Here's the compromise I suggest, lessen the number of ads you display on one page, filter them for NSFW content, Fraud, and audio harassment. Then ask us to whitelist your site. You made the first move when you put so many smutty and virus filled ads on your site, and people have merely reacted in the only logical way they could to protect themselves, but now its your move again, and you have to chose between yelling at us for protecting ourselves, or compromising with us for a top notch reading experience with our ad-blockers disabled. I know it cuts into profits to compromise, but I imagine a large number of your users leaving because of these problems to be a bigger problem in the long term. To be honest, this feels like being scolded for putting our hands up when someone tries to hit us. In summary, I love your site, but I will only disable Ad-block when you make the site enjoyable and virus free with ads not blocked, because your ads make the site not worth using without a blocker. I hope you guys don't just silence or ban me, I want to meet you half way, because I realize how important ad based income is. I just think you've passed the line where too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. |
