Romance Genre question
I am new to genre writing and find it a bit daunting. There seems to be many unwritten rules that must be learned by trial and error.

My question here is: in the Romance Genre does the story need to follow the boy meets girl, boy rips bodice off girl format or can it be boy meets girl boy loses girl?

We have all experienced the later form and most of us learn and move on.

Just wondering.
