It is delight to connect with you. I am also a newbie with writing.com. I concur with you when you stated that you can't wait to begin contributions.
Wow! A marine biologist....., this means you know lots of science. Nothing is wrong with writing academic papers. You can use your talent and expertise to write Science fiction, or Science textbooks, only a suggestion!
I look forward to getting to know your writing style, and forming friendships around the community.
