I think the kind of forum discussion activity you're looking for would be happening mostly within group-only forums.

In that respect, most groups are multi-purpose rather than totally about competition, and have their own internal discussion forum. If that's what you're looking for, I'd advise checking out groups in the genre(s) that interest you, and then asking whether they have a discussion forum.


You're looking for Threaded view of forum posts. The default is Unthreaded. At the top of the posts area in a forum main page, look for this:
