I know you're writing about four people, but perhaps an unexpected visitor can be put in your story to add to the confusion. A wandering raccoon or an angry, injured stowaway cat.
Food for thought. My husband was recently bitten by a rabid bat. Untreated rabies is fatal to humans. That's always a possibility. Does everyone in this family need to be healthy? Perhaps someone is wearing a cast, or recovering from an illness. If one person is incapacitated, that can add to your death count.
One more idea: I refer to those tanks that hold lobsters for purchase "Death Row." The lobsters don't know what's going to happen to them, but they're all slated to die. Something like what Tap said about being pawns in a game played by gods. I want to say maybe they are a form of dinner theater, where they are being observed---entertaining for the observers to see them fret, blame, tremble--- and become dinner for those observers. Something like dinner and a movie. Just a thought.
