Hi Bottlebreaker!

My name is Whiskerface, and I'm so glad you joined us. WDC is a great place with very helpful, thoughtful people. I thought I'd just mention a few things.

A person who has been on this site for less than six months is a Newbie. This means you, Bottlebreaker. On the left side of the screen is a box with links in it. The first one is Things To Do & Read. There are a lot of things there you can explore. For example, the Contest listing offers a lot. Some contests are specific to newbies like yourself. Some are genre specific, such as traditional poetry. The Writer's Cramp is daily, and based off a prompt. Some are just fun, like Parabalistics, where you're encouraged to come up with a saying or piece of advice.

Down from the contests link is the Newsletters Archive. There are a number of newsletters on WDC, and one that might help you is Noticing Newbies. There are good articles and links to stories and other writings by newbies.

Further down, under Community Forums, is the Noticing Newbies forum. That is exclusive to newbies and a good place to meet people.

The search engine at the top of the page is a great resource, and I use it regularly. It's great when I need help with something.
