Helo from a "technological dinosaur" of a Newbie
by A Non-Existent User
Greetings to all from GrammarGrandma. Hi. I am a 53-year-old (54 in two days) grandmother of two. My grandchildren are the most important components of my life. I have been fighting cancer for 6 years now and have been diagnosed with several other illnesses/problems. Since I am handicapped, I spend much time reading, surfing the web, or doing nothing at all.
I used to be an avid writer. Of course, that was back when computers were as big as a room and spit cards out at you. Therefore, I am not really confident with computers and am easily confused. However, with all this time on my hands, I would like to get back to writing. I especially wish to create something special for my grandchildren. I want them to have a lasting gift from me, especially if I am not going to be here to watch them grow up. As of now, I have still not decided what format this will take. I have thought of cookbooks of family recipes with stories and memories woven throughout, books of poetry geared towards them with my own illustrations, fictional children's stories, and a few other ideas. I will probably end up creating some type of book which contains a little bit of everything.
I had started keeping a journal when I was in chemo. Unfortunately, I was so brutally honest that the tale told is very depressing and even somewhat scary. I have decided that it should probably not be seen by anyone in my close family. Broken hearts are not my intention. As I try out different writing ideas, I will welcome critiques, other ideas and suggestions.
So far today, I have been going from one thing to another on this site. I must admit that I am a little overwhelmed. I may end up needing more technical help and support than writing help. No matter - I am a survivor, so what's a little challenge like this? (She says while shaking her head and chewing off her finger nails.) Only kidding, I think this will be fun.
Anyway, it is nice to "meet" all of you and I am happy that I found this site. Great inspirations and happy writing to all. Let my journey begin...
