Because if she's tossed aside, without a family or friends and hated for who she is, she would definitely have the capability to become a pleaser to be around others. If she had been stuck somewhere and they treated her like it was a privilege for her to get their bad treatment, she would become that kind of doormat.

And to do the right thing despite all the pressure? She's got some steel in her, too!
