And the moral of the story is dependant not so much on the story itself, but on the teller. Remember the tortoise* and the hare? What was the moral there? Well apparently it was 'slow and steady wins the race', but it could just have easily been 'enthusiasm without perseverance is not enough.' Or 'quitting before the finish line is a really dumb idea.' Or perhaps, 'mocking others - karma will out.'
The truth is, words are manipulatable and so are people. What was once termed a strong public orator - and therefore a good thing - is now deemed a spin doctor, and thus projects a negative image. So if you want the true moral of a tale, first find out who told it and why.
